Quito, Ecuador via Peru to Uyuni salt flats in Bolivia, a little cycle, simple. Except, we have no support vehicle, we have to carry all our equipment on the bikes, there is the small issue of the Andes in the way, the majority of the route is at an altitude of 3000m + with passes over 4500m, temperatures below -15, wild rabid dogs, living off only guinea pigs, 3 day stints without water or food, off-road, waist deep rivers, no nail polish for Amanda and only 3 weeks to plan due to Will's inability to decide on which adventure would be 'challenging enough'. If you would like to support us, please visit the fundraising page on this blog. We are supporting a fantastic charity called SOS childrens villages which helps children all over the world to be brought up in a family environment which we have been lucky enough to take for granted.

Day 23 to 25 - In & around Chiclayo

So enough of the horrible hospital story - eventually they let me out and complete with a lovely sling we did a spot of sightseeing to fill in time before a return appointment a couple of days later.

First stop was the 'witches' market, full of weird stuff and very sincere sellers, I was offered oil of cat as the best potion for a broken hand and some hallucinagenic cactus juice to take away the pain! Then we went to the beach / fishing village and watched the catch of the day come in - have never seen so many fish and such funny boats.

We also spent a day touring the local ruins which date pre-Inca and was quite amazed by the amount of gold and jewelry they have dug up and how many pyramids just litter the countryside.

Back with the nasty doctor, the xray looked good and I got the all clear to move around for 3 weeks before returning to have the pin removed. The nice hotel people let us leave our bikes / gear with them and we were on the first bus north to the chill-out beach of Mancora for some R&R...
