Quito, Ecuador via Peru to Uyuni salt flats in Bolivia, a little cycle, simple. Except, we have no support vehicle, we have to carry all our equipment on the bikes, there is the small issue of the Andes in the way, the majority of the route is at an altitude of 3000m + with passes over 4500m, temperatures below -15, wild rabid dogs, living off only guinea pigs, 3 day stints without water or food, off-road, waist deep rivers, no nail polish for Amanda and only 3 weeks to plan due to Will's inability to decide on which adventure would be 'challenging enough'. If you would like to support us, please visit the fundraising page on this blog. We are supporting a fantastic charity called SOS childrens villages which helps children all over the world to be brought up in a family environment which we have been lucky enough to take for granted.

Day 26 to 32 - Mancora - Will the kitesurf master!

So, time for a plan rethink - the beach. Amanda assures me it wasn't a deliberate accident to get in some beach time! Mancora, 7hrs north of Chiclayo is a gorgeous beach town on the edge of the desert surrounded by beautiful cliffs and a lot of sand. The beach stretched on for kms and kms, and the town was nothing more than a surf town with a few hostels and some fabulous restaurants!

Amanda did lots of r&r and I spent every day mastering kitesurfing, a long time goal of mine. 5 days of kitesurfing and now I can go upwind and everything! Kitesurf instructor was a crazy american dude (all kitesurf instructors seem to be a little insane) and at lunch time every day we would drive off to some awesome beach location down the coast depending on the wind. One beach was where Ernest Hemingway wrote a book and did some fishing? So we did do some culture!

The evenings were spent eating Thai, Mexican, Steak, Seafood etc etc, all a massive treat after 3 weeks of chicken and rice.

The hostel we stayed in was quite funny. Full of 18 year old english backpackers sitting around all day playing drinking games and watching the footy world cup. Reminded me of when I was travelling at 18, but Amanda was less than impressed! Worth it though, as our basic hut was right on the beach with gorgeous views of the sunset and the sound of waves every night.
